The Piranha Bytes game, Risen 2, was released on April 27, 2012 to audiences the world over, distributed by Deep Silver. Continuing the basic story of the first Risen game, but set some time later, things have become bleak.

Players play the usual Nameless Hero (common to games by Piranha Bytes), equipped with a sword and pistol, ordered to go undercover as a pirate. Attributes include Blades, Firearms, Toughness, Cunning, and Voodoo, with three talents and many skills in each, allowing for a wide variety of character customization. (There is no facial, body type, or otherwise physical customization, however.)

A kraken has been spotted attacking ships as they head for Caldera, destroying any who approach. Commandant Carlos sends you on a mission to retrieve a magical artifact known as the Titan Harpoon, which is supposed to be able to defeat the kraken, not to mention the titans themselves. Following is the description of the game by Deep Silver.

"Set several years after the end of Risen, raging titans have devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of existence. Subsequently, monstrous creatures have risen from the watery depths of the sea, and their attacks have brought all seafaring to a grinding halt. The hero, now a member of the Inquisition, is sent out to find out how to stop the chaos caused by these creatures from the deep. His quest begins with rumors that the pirates who frequent the southern islands are the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all, and end their reign of terror."
